THE Highlanders executive will meet today to finalise on who lands the chief executive officer’s post.
Club chairman Kenneth Mhlophe confirmed that the executive would meet today to finalise the issue.
Interviews for the post were held on Sunday at the team’s offices where the human resources subcommittee consisting of members of the board and executive carried out the exercise.
In modern football the chief executive’s role is one of the most important in driving the football business and other enterprises within the establishment.
The post fell vacant last month when Ronald Moyo notified Highlanders that he would not seek another three year term at the helm. His contract expired on Sunday and he is leaving to pursue other interests.
The number of candidates interviewed could not be ascertained as the club has kept a tight lead on that protecting their prospective employee who may be compromised at his present place of work.
However Zimpapers Sports Hub can conclusively say Sihlangu Dlodlo and Bukhosi Mpofu attended the meeting.
According to sources at the Highlanders Clubhouse, the two seemed to have impressed the panel with their presentations which showed an appreciation of the club, desire to grow the business portfolio and exploit the team’s brand equity to the limit. They clearly spelt out how they value the team’s vision and desire to see the club take its place among the big clubs in the continent through prudent financial management, investment in youth development and bringing value to card carrying membership.
At the moment there are no benefits associated with being a card carrying member.
Until a decade ago, members were given calendars.
For now the only tangible benefits are being allowed into annual general meetings, extra-ordinary general meetings and the right to vote.
Bosso chairman Mhlophe said the whole executive would meet today over the issue.
“We will finalise who gets the post when we meet on Tuesday,” said Mhlophe on Sunday hours after the interviews.
Highlanders chairman, Mhlophe, secretary-general Morgen Dube, vice chairman of the board Cosmas Sikhosana and Elkanah Dube consisted of the interviewing panel.
The new chief executive will be hard pressed to create a business like secretariat and ensure tenets of good corporate governance are adhered to.
There have been financial issues to do with the secretariat that have left the club’s image bruised. He will be expected to restore confidence at the office and ensure that unlike what happened in the last two years, in 2025 audited financials are presented.
But whoever lands the post must know that it is never going to be a stroll in the park.
Expectations are high for him to deliver.
By the end of the day, the winning candidate for the chief executive officer’s post is expected to be known at the latest tomorrow.
