The two teams played goalless draws in the league and on Sunday, one set of players might have the last laugh with a win.
Bulawayo City Council senior public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu yesterday confirmed the match will take place.
“The match between Highlanders and Chicken Inn is on this weekend,” said Mpofu.
She said the organisers were still busy looking for potential sponsors and if successful, there could be a trophy and prize money for the winners.
“We will confirm everything in tomorrow’s (today) press conference,” she said.
Highlanders Legends who recently pummelled Tsholotsho veterans 11-0 will play a curtain raiser match against a City of Kings select side.
Chicken Inn, set to invade the African jungles in the CAF Champions League tournament after only playing for two years in the big boys league, have promised to give Highlanders a good run for their money.
Coach Adam Ndlovu, who has done tremendously well in his first full year in charge, was optimistic of a positive result but remained wary of the danger posed by his childhood club.
“It is a challenging encounter we are facing but like any other game we are expecting to win. The boys have met Highlanders twice this year and they know them very well,” Ndlovu said.
He said the game will be a platform for him to identify his potential team for CAF if they will be taking part in the tournament early next year.
“I am not yet sure if we will be participating in the CAF tournament but if we do this will be a chance for me to put a team that we will be using,” he said.
He however said he was happy with his current squad with the midfield and strike force needing a few additions.
Ndlovu will look up to the 2012 Soccer Star of the Year finalists Felix Chindungwe and Kudakwashe Mahachi to carry the day for him while Tshilamoya are l-ikely to parade the same team that did duty in their last match of the season against Blue Rangers in Harare in which they won 2-0 through goals from Heritein Masuku and hot favourite for the Soccer Star of the Year award, Masimba Mambare.
The City Council wrote to the two Bulawayo giants on the 29th of October inviting them to participate in the charity event next week but the Innscor sponsored outfit sought the Bulawayo municipality to bring the game a week earlier to allow their players to take an early break for the festive season.
The Mayor’s Cheer fund was launched early this month by Mayor Thaba Moyo and the targeted amount to be raised is $150 000 to go towards charity a rise from the $100 000 which was set last year.
