HIGHLANDERS Football Club have reportedly engaged their principal sponsor BancABC to assist them raise duty for a bus they are importing from South Africa.
Bosso need to secure between $25 000 and $27 000 to get the bus cleared after efforts to get a duty rebate from the Government hit a brick wall.
Club representatives, that included board chairman Mgcini Nkolomi and board member Luke Mnkandla reportedly met BancABC officials last month in which they discussed various issues including how the financial institution could assist Highlanders in paying duty for the bus that is reportedly ready for delivery.
The parties, who met on 17 April, are, however, yet to agree on what assistance the bank could forward to Highlanders.
Nkolomo confirmed that they met the BancABC officials but declined to state the details of their discussions although he admitted the issue of the duty for the bus is one of the issues that came up for discussion.
“Yes we met BancABC and discussed several issues pertaining to our relationship but at the moment we are not at liberty to divulge the details of the meeting as it would be premature.
“The issue (duty) also came up but we are still talking,” he said.
The bus was bought with the assistance of prominent Bosso benefactor Tshinga Dube. The club gave Dube $20 000 who then added $25 000.
Highlanders, who have been offered a bus by Nyaradzo Funeral Services but are yet to take delivery of the vehicle, had earlier this year appealed to the Government for a duty rebate to import the bus but they were turned down.
During the club’s annual general meeting early this year, executive chairman Peter Dube told Highlanders members that the bus had since been bought and it was up to the club to look for money to pay duty for it.
