BOSSO DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM ‘BOYCOTT B/F’ CAMPAIGN

HIGHLANDERS have distanced themselves from calls to boycott Barbourfields on Sunday when the club host ZPC Kariba in a Castle Lager Premiership match.

Sihlangu Dlodlo, the club chief executive, said it was business as usual at Bosso.

“We are not part of that, we are a formal institution and we give our members rights and obligations.

“We are members of the PSL where we act within the laws and constitution and we would not love to engage in unintended conflicts.

“We cannot be part of actions perceived to pull down the PSL and ZIFA.”

He added:

“As I speak, our boys are training for the match, ready to entertain fans. We are not involved in calls for the boycott.

“As Highlanders, we have always counted on the 12th man to help the boys deliver.

“The noise drives our players and we count on them this Sunday.

“Our players always play to entertain fans and this Sunday is no different.”

Dlodlo said the club had no say in what members decide to do on their own.

There have been calls for Bosso and fans to boycott the match in protest.

The calls are coming from some Highlanders members, supporters and sympathisers.

They say their club is being treated badly and they are pointing to the ghost penalty, which was awarded to Simba Bhora in a Chibuku Cup quarter-final match.

Social media has been awash with calls for a boycott of the match against ZPC Kariba.

What infuriated the fans was the PSL’s decision to fine Highlanders and Simba Bhora US$6 000 each for crowd trouble.

They argue that Highlanders were not the home team and that management of the event belonged to the PSL and the league was the one which failed to discharge its duties.
