HIGHLANDERS and Dynamos are expected to renew rivalry when they clash in the final event of the Kuzana Sport and Creative Economy Expo of Zimbabwe (SCEEZ) in Bulawayo on October 11.
Nicholas Nyathi, the vice chairman of the Highlanders 100 Years Celebrations confirmed on Sunday that they had partnered with the Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture to host the event which will also be for the centennial party which is on-going.
“We would like to thank the Government of Zimbabwe through the Ministry of Sport for partnering us to host the Kuzana event which is also part of our 100 Years Celebrations. We are excited to have a match of this magnitude to celebrate our 100 years and also support SCEEZ,” said Nyathi.
Highlanders had initially sought to have either TP Mazembe or Orlando Pirates involved in one of their plug events, but a number of factors stopped them from having the two teams. But as always, a game against Dynamos is as competitive as the two teams fight for bragging rights each time they clash.
The sport and creative expo which is expected to run from October 7-11 seeks to place sport, arts and culture as economic growth and employment drivers.
President Mnangagwa is expected to officially open the five-day event with the soccer match expected to bring curtains down to an event expected to attract participants from a diverse background.
Zimbabweans are expected to come and share experiences on how the creative and sporting industries could better contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic growth.
Athletes, creatives, entrepreneurs, investors and corporate organisations are expected to take part in an event to run under the theme: ‘From Talent to GDP: Driving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 through Sport and Creative Industries.’
October 9, has been set as the date on which the President will officially open the event with the soccer match to follow two days later in what is expected to be a game to fill Barbourfields Stadium given it is part of the Highlanders 100 Years Celebrations.
The inaugural SCEEZ event will definitely define sport and entertainment industries’ potential to create jobs.
