Bosso face transfer blow as Chirinda, Masuku deals stall

HIGHLANDERS’ hopes of bolstering their squad during the mid season transfer window have hit a major stumbling block, with moves for top targets Obriel Chirinda and Nqobizitha Masuku hanging in the balance.

The Bulawayo giants are in danger of missing out on the duo, as Chirinda’s wage demands and Masuku’s growing list of suitors threaten to derail both pursuits.

The two are understood to be high on Bosso’s wishlist as the club looks to strengthen during this mid season transfer window which closes on 31 July. There had been growing optimism that both players would join before the window closes.

But insiders now warn that Highlanders risk being outpaced unless they act quickly.
Chirinda, who has been in blistering form for Ngezi Platinum, was identified as the ideal frontman to lead Bosso’s attack. However, talks have reportedly stalled, with the striker’s salary expectations exceeding what Highlanders are prepared to offer. He remains under contract at Ngezi, who have also handed him the captain’s armband, a clear show of faith in his leadership and growing influence at the club.

“It’s not just about the money. He is respected at Ngezi, and being named captain shows the club sees him as a leader. That’s hard to walk away from unless the offer on the table is something special. Right now, Highlanders haven’t matched that level,” said a source.

With Chirinda now expected to stay put, Highlanders may have to shift their attention to alternative attacking options, though few offer his mix of pace, power, and topflight experience.

Meanwhile, Bosso are also facing a tight race for the signature of midfielder Masuku.
The dynamic midfielder, who remains a fan favourite from his previous stint at Highlanders, is said to be open to a return. But the clock is ticking.

Masuku recently parted ways with Botswana Premier League side Jwaneng Galaxy and has since drawn interest from several clubs in Zimbabwe and the region.

While insiders say Bosso is his preferred destination, delays in sealing the deal could see the midfielder snapped up elsewhere.

“There’s no doubt he has a soft spot for Bosso. But football is also about timing. Other clubs are now knocking, and if Highlanders don’t move quickly, someone else will take him. They can’t afford to be slow with a player of his quality and experience,” said the source.

Highlanders acting chief executive officer Kindman Ndlovu said the club is working hard to secure key reinforcements this window.

“We have a list of players we’re targeting, and yes, we are working hard to bring in the right players that suit the club’s needs. We understand the expectations from our fans and are doing everything within our means to ensure we strengthen the squad. For now, I cannot disclose names as it may affect the process. But the club has a clear plan in place and we’re in talks where necessary,” said Ndlovu.

Highlanders now turn their focus to Sunday’s blockbuster away clash with Scottland in Harare. The two teams played a 1-all draw in the reverse encounter at Barbourfields Stadium.
