ACTING Highlanders CEO Kindman Ndlovu has withdrawn his resignation after the club’s executive committee refused to accept his decision to step down.
The leadership closed ranks around Ndlovu in a tense Monday evening meeting, opting for stability over change at a time when they are dealing with some key issues, including transfer business and strategic planning.
Ndlovu, who took over the role in April, had quit abruptly last week, citing a toxic working relationship with club treasurer Nkani Khoza.
He accused Khoza of undermining his efforts and fostering a hostile environment that made it impossible for him to operate effectively.
Despite his frustrations, the executive convinced Ndlovu to stay on a temporary basis until a new CEO is appointed.
Interviews for the position were conducted last Friday, with an official announcement expected soon.
Among those interviewed were Nqobile Ngulube, Nkululeko Ndlovu, and Nomvelo Mlotshwa, some reportedly via virtual platforms.
A source close to the executive confirmed:
“The club has already made a decision on who the next CEO will be. However, for purposes of a proper handover and to manage immediate priorities like player transfers, Kindman Ndlovu will remain in charge.
“Investigations will also be made into prior accusations made by Ndlovu so as to create a proper working relationship.”
In a statement issued by Highlanders, the club confirmed Ndlovu’s retraction and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering internal cohesion.
“Following successful engagements, the executive member for technical and development, Mr. Kindman Ndlovu, will remain the acting CEO until a substantive appointment is made,” the club said.
“Mr. Ndlovu retracts his resignation letter and apologises to the executive member for finance, Nkani Khoza, and the club at large for any inconvenience caused by the public leak.”
This leadership scuffle comes on the heels of another shake-up, the sudden dismissal of head coach Kelvin Kaindu.
His exit, despite a recent 1-0 win over Manica Diamonds and a goalless draw against Chicken Inn, has left fans puzzled, especially as businessman Wicknell Chivayo had just pledged financial support to the club.
With the transfer window open and money now available, many felt Kaindu deserved the opportunity to bolster the squad.
His dismissal has fuelled suspicion about the club’s direction, with even some board members expressing quiet dissent.
Leaks from within the club have only worsened the situation.
News of Ndlovu’s resignation and subsequent return became public almost immediately, suggesting a breakdown in leadership discipline and trust.
In another brewing controversy, finance officer Sihlalisiwe Mnkandla is set to face a disciplinary hearing for alleged fraud and insubordination.
Her return to Highlanders in February, following a court ordered reinstatement, caught most of the executive off guard.
The club remains adamant that she must account for her actions before an internal committee, though missing financial documents may complicate the process.
