ONE of the founding Highlanders players Wilfred Randen has died. He died on Tuesday aged 98.

Randen played for Highlanders as a centre forward two years after its inception in 1926 when it was still known as Lions.

He started as a ball boy before he eventually played for the team in 1928.

Family spokesperson and daughter Shirley Randen said her father’s death was a great loss to the family.

Shirley said besides his love for football, her father was dedicated to God.

“He loved music too,” said Shirley.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow at the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa in Southwold before his burial the following day 10am at Hope Fountain.

Mourners are gathered at Number 6 Lebury Road Southwold. Randen leaves behind six children and several grandchildren. — @innocentskizoe
