‘Bosso needs change’

HIGHLANDERS need to go through some changes if they are to shrug off their struggles that have seen the side fail to win the league championship in 11 years, one of their illustrious products, Peter Ndlovu has said.

Nsukuzonke, as Ndlovu was affectionately known during his playing days, said there was no excuse for a team like Highlanders to be struggling in the manner they are doing.

In an interview on the sidelines of the 2017 Castle Soccer Stars Awards ceremony in Harare on Friday evening, Ndlovu said change would be the catalyst for success at Bosso.

“There is no excuse for a team like Bosso to be where they are, to be going down but look, we talk of going down but we don’t know the inside story, we don’t know if it’s the financial support or the system but once the system changes things will change. Every car needs an overhaul after sometime just like the country is going through changes, if you change the situation things can take a turn for the better,” he said.

Ndlovu, who was the guest of honour at the ceremony, said there was need for new ideas as time evolves and the club cannot afford to be stuck in the past. He cited how he used to fly into the national team squad and play a full match but it is now not advisable considering changes the sport has gone through.

“I could fly in and play a game but I can’t advise that we have Knowledge (Musona) or Khama (Billiat) flying in to feature in a match because they won’t perform to the best of their ability. I used to do it then but now things have changed and football is now more scientific and players would need more rest. Things change in general and we have to adapt,” added Ndlovu.

Bosso, one of the two biggest football teams in the country, finished sixth on the log with 47 points as they struggled with their game this season only managing on one occasion to win back to back games, only doing so in the third and fourth game of the season, as they stumbled, blowing hot and cold.

The inconsistent performances saw the crowds dwindling at Barbourfields as the season headed towards the end of the season. The Bulawayo giants failed to have a player among the prestigious Soccer Stars of the Year finalists.
