IT has been established that Highlanders Football Club players are owed one month’s salary for May and four winning bonuses.
The Bulawayo giants’ dressing room is in turmoil, with players reportedly not training since Monday ahead of their blockbuster Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter against old rivals Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
A source close to the developments confirmed that the club is one month behind on salaries in addition to the outstanding winning bonuses.
“The players received double salaries in April, which covered March and April. They have not received any payment for May and we are now well into June. Naturally, they have financial obligations that need to be met,” said the source.
The source added that frustration has been building among the players over the delays, resulting in the training boycott that has disrupted preparations for one of the biggest fixtures on the domestic football calendar.
“The players feel they have been patient enough and expected the club to honour its obligations. The situation has affected morale within the camp at a crucial stage of the season,” said the source.
The financial challenges come at a time when Bosso are seeking consistency in the league campaign and preparing for a high-stakes encounter against a resurgent Dynamos side.
A prolonged standoff could prove costly for the club, with the players’ welfare concerns threatening to overshadow preparations for Sunday’s potentially season-defining clash.
Highlanders supporters will be hoping that the impasse is resolved swiftly to allow the technical team and players to focus fully on the eagerly anticipated battle against their Harare rivals.
