CALlISTO Pasuwa’s woes continue to mount as Highlanders have also recalled their players from camp as they want to use them in the opening match of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. Several Premiership clubs such as CAPS United, FC Platinum and How Mine declined to release their players for national duty.
The Highlanders players were released for the ZNA Charity Cup match but returned to the capital after the game on Sunday.
The Bulawayo giants had striker Thomas Chideu, who Pasuwa rates highly, in the Young Warriors camp.
Chideu proved he is a star in the making by sinking How Mine in the ZNA Charity Shield last weekend.
Highlanders had also provided midfielder Nqobizita Masuku and defender Teenage Hadebe to the team.
The players may have a chance to join camp after their match against ZPC Kariba at Gwanzura, a day before the Young Warriors match.
The league programme begins today as Harare City face newcomers Tsholotsho at Rufaro.
Pasuwa had initially called up a 30-member team but most of the players failed to make it into camp due to various reasons.
The Young Warriors now face a difficult task against Cameroon at Rufaro this Sunday with most of their best players missing.
“The coach does not even know which team to use on the day as he is forced to try new combinations every day,” said the sources.
“The recalling of players by Highlanders is the final stroke and that is letting the whole team down.”
Meanwhile, The Lifelong Footballers Trust have challenged ZIFA president, Cuthbert Dube, to attend the match at Rufaro on Sunday.
Trust consultant, Chris Sambo, said if Dube fails to support the Young Warriors, it will send yet another signal that he does not care for Zimbabwe football.
“We are challenging the ZIFA president to come to Rufaro and support the national team if he really cares about our football,” Sambo said.
“Failure to do that, as he has always done most of the time where he hasn’t even cared to come to a stadium, will be a message that he doesn’t care about the game but only cares about being the leader of ZIFA.”
