PREMIERSHIP giants Highlanders are not reading much into the 1-0 win they posted against ZPC Kariba at Babourfields six weeks ago as they take on the same opponents at Nyamhunga this afternoon. The Bulawayo giants have had a false start to the second half of the season as they are yet to taste victory in four matches. The former champions faltered against fellow title contenders CAPS United, Triangle and Mutare City before settling for a controversial 1-1 draw against Chicken Inn last Sunday.
Bosso have since dropped into third place with 32 points, seven adrift of leaders FC Platinum, a gap which coach Erol Akbay says means nothing with so much still to play for. “We are seeking redemption after going for four matches without posting a victory,” said Akbay. I am still confident we can win the title if we start collecting maximum points, which I hope we can do.
“I am not under any pressure and am not feeling any heat. So what I can say at the moment is we can close the gap between us and the teams above and we will have a say in the destiny of the title.”
Highlanders will have to brave the Kariba heat without some of their core players due to suspensions and injuries. The pair of Simon Munawa and Honest Moyo are suspended while Nhlanhla Ndlovu, Ralph Matema and Benson Phiri are all injured. Kasimero Chimbadzwa, who is participating at the ZRP Commissioner- General’s sports gala at Morris Depot is also out.
Bosso’s opponents are in high spirits having recorded a morale-boosting 1-0 win against Chapungu last Saturday. They also have no suspensions to worry about. Defender Thomas Sweswe said they have the capacity to beat Bosso.
“Highlanders beat us last time around and we are saying we need to beat them at Nyamhunga,” said Sweswe. “They are a good team but we also have capable players who can do well so we are going for nothing short of victory.”
