HIGHLANDERS star midfielder Mthulisi Maphosa cheated death on Saturday night when his car burst a front tyre and rolled several times in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo.

The accident happened on a sharp curve while Maphosa was on his way home after dropping off a friend in the same suburb.

All occupants of the Honda CRV were tossed out of the vehicle and were rushed to Mpilo Central

Hospital by a passing motorist. They were treated and discharged.

The lanky midfielder and his two passengers escaped with minor injuries but the vehicle is a write-off.

According to Maphosa’s manager, legendary radio personality Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda, the Honda CRV hit a pothole resulting in the front tyre bursting and the vehicle overturning.

“He hit a pothole and the front tyre burst. Since it was at a curve, he lost control of the car which then overturned and rolled several times before landing on its wheels facing the opposite direction,” said Sibanda.

“We have just visited the two passengers and I’m happy to say they are all well despite the obvious shock.”

Maphosa, Sibanda said, would attend today’s

training session.

A number of accidents have occurred on that deadly curve and motorists have raised concern and called on the city council to do something as there are no warning signs installed ahead of the curve.
