BOSSO SWITCH FOCUS

Curtworth Masango

THEY have been dominating the league championship race but can Highlanders transform their good form to a fine run in the Chibuku Super Cup?

Bosso have created an immovable object in the league and all the clubs have struggled to score against the Bulawayo giants.

On Sunday, they get their Chibuku Super Cup campaign underway with a date against city rivals, Bulawayo Chiefs, who have the on-fired Obriel Chirinda in their ranks, in the first round at Barbourfields.

They already have a piece of silverware in their cabinet after winning the Independence Trophy in Mt Darwin in April.

The Ninjas are the defending champions, having won their maiden piece of silverware in the top-flight league, with a victory over Herentals in the final at the same venue.

They will be the first to admit that the success story was written thanks to the support of the Bosso fans who wanted a local team to win the tournament. Now, new Ninjas coach, Johannes Nhumwa, takes charge of his first game under pressure for another dream run.

For Bosso, it’s another test which defender Archford Faira will be hoping to pass.

“We pray that the results would be in our favour and, at the same time, we wish Bulawayo Chiefs the best,” he said.

“It will be a close one for us but we can’t hope for less than a victory in this one.

“I think the league results are a big motivation for both teams as Chiefs are eager to redeem themselves, we are also eager to keep the record of defeating them intact.

“Personally, l want to play much better than what I did in the league match we played against Chiefs.

“They are tricky customers and we wouldn’t want to give them room.

“As a team, we are aiming for the Chibuku Cup so Bulawayo Chiefs are a stepping stone to where we are going.”
