CAN Highlanders finally exorcise the Kariba ghost? Coach Kelvin Kaindu believes this could be the year Bosso smashes the Nyamhunga Stadium jinx as they head into a do-or-die Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against ZPC Kariba on Saturday.
It’s been over a decade of heartbreak on the banks of Lake Kariba, but the Bulawayo giants are daring to dream again.
“We’ve already beaten teams that gave us nightmares last season,” said Kaindu.
“Bikita Minerals, Yadah, FC Platinum, we’ve collected points from all of them. That’s a huge mental shift.”
But it won’t be a walk in the park.
ZPC Kariba are unbeaten at home this season and have turned Nyamhunga into a graveyard for visitors. Add to that Bosso’s shaky away form, just one win on the road, and you’ve got a high-stakes battle brewing under the Kariba sun . . . or should we say Kariba winter fog?
Kaindu hopes the cooler conditions will work in their favour.
“At least it’s winter now. The heat won’t be an excuse. It’s all about how badly we want it.”
Bosso’s mission won’t be helped by the loss of two key players: • Talent Dube • Gillian Nyathi
Both suffered injuries during the goalless draw against FC Platinum last Sunday.
“They’re out. We travel without them. But we still believe,” Kaindu said. The Highlanders squad left Bulawayo early Thursday, setting their sights on snapping the Kariba curse and reigniting their title chase.
