HIGHLANDERS appear to have found their foot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League marathon, collecting seven points out of a possible nine in their last three games, but coach Benjani “Undertaker” Mwaruwari refuses to be swept away.
A recent 1-0 victory over AGAMA and 2-1 triumph past Bulawayo Chiefs before the latest 1-1 draw with Dynamos make Bosso’s first two consecutive wins since the season started.
Entering the Battle of Zimbabwe amid uncertainty and off-field distractions following a week without training as a result of a strike owing to unpaid dues, less was expected from the Bulawayo giants.
Highlanders, however, were the better side against Dynamos in terms of possession, attempts at goal and general control of the game, despite failing to collect maximum points.
Their latest performances have charmed many who opine that Bosso could have finally found their groove in the campaign, giving credit to Mwaruwari for introducing a new philosophy in the team.
“I am happy that the boys are finally slowly getting to understand my philosophy, it is a process, but I can now see the light and we are slowly getting there.
“I knew it would take time and it would not be easy and now I am sure they understand what I want, we have finally found each other and surely good times are coming,” Mwaruwari said.
The former Manchester City man has placed his trust in a youth brigade that is fronted by 20-year-old Nigerian Benjamin Adeogun, Prince Ndlovu (20), 19-year-old Royn Nyamono, Mvelo Khoza (21) and Mongameli Tshuma who is (24).
Under his guidance seasoned players – Kuda Mahachi, Rainsome Pavari and Nomore Chinyerere – have found a new lease of life in the top-flight following a turbulent 2025 season.
In the last 10 games, Mwaruwari has led the team to five wins, four draws and a defeat.
The record places them in seventh place with 28 points from 19 games.
While their defence, which was breached 10 times looked solid, Mwaruwari an, ex-centre forward would be worried by the conversion rate of his strikers.
Bosso have managed just 15 goals.
“We need to find more firepower, for us to win games it means we need goals so this is an area that we have to work on.
“We are now in the second round of games, teams are stable now and the race is getting intense so we also have to step up our game and do what gives us points.”
Highlanders will be bringing in new signings when the transfer window opens on July 1.
With Mwaruwari arriving at Bosso late after most clubs had done their off-season shopping, he never got the freedom to go into the market and scout for players.
Perhaps the mid-season transfer window is his chance to flex his scouting abilities.
Former Manica Diamonds midfielder Emmanuel Mandiranga, who also previously played as a striker for the Mozambican club União Desportiva do Songo (UD Songo) is being linked with a move to Highlanders.
Mwaruwari said he is eagerly waiting for the transfer window opening as he seeks to reinforce his side.
“I am hoping that going forward we will also be able to reinforce some areas that need fixing.
“The plan is for us to get some quality players that we want during this transfer window not only to bolster the squad, but also it creates more competition amongst players.”
This week Highlanders play away to MWOS at Ngoni with both sides hoping to collect maximum points after featuring in identical 1-1 draws last weekend.
