HIGHLANDERS Football Club development side player Caesar “Mafigo” Dube’s death was caused by head injuries he sustained after he allegedly fell from a moving van on Sunday evening near his home.

The 21-year old son of Sizalobuhle Dube, a former Njube Sundowns and How Mine player, was travelling from Makokoba with his friend when the accident occurred near Entumbane Complex.

The young Bosso90 midfielder was headed home from visiting his friends in Makokoba when the tragic mishap occurred.

According to his father, the youngster was brought to the house before he was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital on Sunday before he died yesterday.

“I can’t believe it, I just received a phone call on Sunday that my son fell from a van just like that and landed on his head and when I rushed to Mpilo, the doctor attending to him suggested that he be put in ICU and that’s where he was till his death,” said a shattered Dube.

The father, however, stated that he did not know that his son had friends in Makokoba.

Dube said Caesar’s friend whom he was travelling with told them that when they got to Entumbane Complex, the van hit a pothole and that’s where his son fell and landed on his head.

The people who brought him to the house were however focused on the injured Caesar and the driver of the van left.

“His friend told us that when they got to Entumbane Complex, the car hit a pothole and that’s where Mafigo fell and landed on his head.

“Instead of taking him to the hospital they brought him here to the house and that’s when he was taken to hospital.

“We only know that the vehicle he was in was a van and the ones who were here concentrated on him (Caesar) and the driver of the van left. His friend was the one who showed them where he stays, at his grandmother’s place,” said Dube.

Bosso90 head coach, Melusi Mabaleka Sibanda said the loss of Caesar is a huge one to the club as he was one of the promising players in the ranks of the team. The midfielder and the coach had been working together for a year after the player joined Highlanders from Bantu Leopards.

“It’s painful because he was showing signs that he is going places with football, I was telling myself that next year in January I would have expected to have him promoted to the first team.

“He was one of the players I was looking at to be promoted to the first team,” said Sibanda.
