Bosso’s dynasty dreams

HIGHLANDERS are out to create another football dynasty. Bosso chief Nhlanhla Dube yesterday said the Highlanders technical team, led by technical manager Madinda Ndlovu, is not under pressure to deliver the title this season. Instead, it has been tasked with reviving the club’s culture.

“We have brought in a technical team that understands the culture of Highlanders hence we are saying we are not reinventing the wheel but we are trying to reconnect with our past culture.

“Highlanders is known for its entertaining brand of football but we seem to have lost that in the past years. That is something we are hoping to reconnect with under the guidance of Madinda,” said Dube.

In the mid-90s, Ndlovu embarked on a junior project whose graduates went on to win four titles in a row (1999-2002) under the guidance of Rahman Gumbo.
He is also credited with assembling the team that went on to win the 2006 championship with Methembe Ndlovu in charge.

Dube is confident that their coach will deliver another generation of title winners.
“We have travelled this road before and are confident that we will achieve what we have achieved in the past when we undertook the same project.

“Remember our four-time winning machine and the squad which won the 20006 championship? Madinda is the one who had set the project in motion and this time we have said to him ‘go out there and do your thing’. He has our full support,” said Dube.
But while his bosses are not asking for titles, Ndlovu insists that his team will be making a case for the trophies on offer.

“We are talking of restoring legacy at Highlanders but we also want to win things,” the Bosso coach was quoted as saying last week.
“We want to win silverware. Whatever comes our way this season we will be competing for but we don’t have pressure to say we must win the league, we must win the cups. We don’t want to put pressure on the youngsters.”
