THE Seventh-day Adventist Church Chiremba South district women’s ministry has adopted Epworth Clinic maternity ward to help improve services on offer there. At a ceremony to mark the adoption, SDA Chiremba south women’s ministry chairperson Mrs Alice Munda said the initiative would benefit over 20 expecting mothers who will be provided with clothes, napkins and maternity registration fees.
“We noted that most households in Epworth have unemployed couples and unmarried women. Since last year, we have been coming to Epworth clinic doing various outreach programmes like cleaning, donating food and clothes but as we progressed we noted that pregnant mothers need more attention. Early this year, we then agreed to adopt a ward and taking care of needs of the whole ward,” she said.
Mrs Munda said donations would be collected from church members every month. “We will also make follow-ups on the mothers and give them spiritual support after they give birth,” she said.
SDA Chiremba South shepherdess Mrs Joymore Muchoko urged the church to take more social responsibility and help the needy.
“Drawing from our theme scripture, Mathew 25:43, churches need to create and maintain good relations with the public especially the vulnerable groups. I say so because the Bible says we are the salt and light of the earth.
“Children should be loved and provided with all the requirements by the parents because they are the future,” she said.
