WITHIN the ranks of Highlanders’ developmental side, Bosso90, there shines a young gem named Mvelo Khoza. This 18-year-old prodigy has made a name for himself as an impressive right-back, and all signs point to a future that gleams with promise.

Mvelo’s journey to Bosso’s developmental squad began at the start of the season, when he made the switch from another formidable Southern Region Division One team, Ajax Hotspurs. What’s even more noteworthy is that he made his mark with Ajax Hotspurs at the tender age of 17, showcasing his exceptional talent and potential.

“It has been a good feeling for me to play for such a big club and I am happy that I am getting the opportunity to also play for the team especially at my age, which shows that the coaches believe in me a lot”, Khoza said.

The Makokoba-bred young defender is so obsessed with the game such that he even recalls the actual date of his first football match he played at boyhood club, Real Stars.

“I remember it was 11 August of 2015 when I played my first football match at Real Stars under coach Clement Chimimba whom I appreciate very much for giving me an opportunity. He taught me football at such an early age, and he believed in me when no one else even knew about me therefore I appreciate him a lot.”

The defender has played seven matches so far this season and provided two assists and contributed four clean sheets to the team, in a first half of the season in which he has been disturbed by injuries which have hampered his progress.

He has good defending and offensive attributes as he can play dangerous crosses and diagonal balls to attackers which is a bonus for his teammates in offensive areas which has led to many people comparing him with first team defender Andrew Mbeba who made his debut as an 18-year-old in top flight football.

It would not be that much of a surprise that the boy is very talented considering his previous schools. He did his primary school at Lotshe Primary School of Makokoba and his secondary at Mpopoma High School, a school which has produced one of the finest sports people.

The young right-back also mentioned that his favourite match so far was a league game away to Mosi Rovers, a match his side won 2-1.

“I had a fine performance in that match and the coaches were impressed with me, nothing is really more important than that,” Khoza said.

He will hope to again have an opportunity to express himself again in a Southern Region Division One Soccer League match this weekend when his side takes on log leaders Arenel Movers.
