IF the Castle Lager Premiership was a Stock Exchange, the Highlanders’ stock would have been the one in high demand right now.

Bosso, who are chasing their first league title in 17 years, are top of the table, thanks to a superior goal difference over CAPS United.

Both clubs have 15 points although the Bulawayo giants have played a game less than the Green Machine.

H-Metro went back to the archives, to try and see the progress, or lack of progress, among the country’s Big Four clubs between last year’s campaign and the current marathon.

It provides an interesting insight.

This time, last year, Highlanders were struggling with just EIGHT points from their first seven matches.

Bosso had won just two, drawn two and lost three of their opening seven games, scoring six goals and conceding four.

Their report card showed a FAIL with just 38.09 percent of the maximum number of points they could get from seven games.

Fast forward to this year and the picture could not have been any better.

They have won FOUR of their seven matches, drawn three and are yet to lose, scoring six goals and conceding only one for their 15 points.

It represents a dramatic improvement with their report card showing a pass rate of 71.4 percent.

Dynamos came out flying last year, winning four of their opening seven games, drawing two and losing just one for an impressive report card showing a 66.66 percent success.

This year, DeMbare have won three, drawn three and lost one of their opening seven games and while they are still in the success zone, they have slipped to 57.14 percent.

CAPS United were struggling last season, winning just two of their opening eight games, drawing five and losing one for a report card which showed a failure at 45.83 percent.

This year, the Green Machine have won half their eight games, and drawn three, while losing just one for a turnaround impressive scorecard of 62.5 percent.

Champions FC Platinum have the same record as last year, maintaining their 50 percent record, in their first eight games.

They have won the same number of matches (3), drawn the same number of games (3) and lost the same number of games (2).

They have even scored the same number of goals (10) and have the same number of points (12).

For those who believe Norman Mapeza and his champions are out of the championship race, a quick review of last year’s results, at this stage of the campaign, will remind them that the platinum beast is still right in the race.
