THREE balaclava-clad armed robbers are on the run for allegedly robbing two bottle store owners of their cash and cellphones at gunpoint.

The incident happened on Monday shortly after 8pm at Massland Farm and Hellenvale Farm situated on the outskirts of Bulawayo. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We would like to advise members of the public not to resist or fight back robbers when they raid them as that would put their lives at risk.

“The victims should be able to identify their attackers and supply that information to the police as that would aid in investigations,” he said.

Insp Ncube also appealed for information that could help in the arrest of three robbers. A source close to the incident said the robbers were travelling in a Honda Fit car and were armed with a toy gun and a knife.

They arrived at Massland Farm and went straight to a bottle store owned by Kiznet Dube (44) and found the bar open while there were boozers inside.

“They confronted Dube and demanded money. Dube tried to run away but one of the robbers threatened to shoot him and warned him to stop but he did not stop and he chased after him and caught up with him. He slapped him in the face. He dragged him to the bar. Dube gave him , after that they left to Hellenvale Farm,” said the source.

When they arrived at Hellenvale Farm they went to Siphosenkosi Mpofu’s bar and found the bar open while the patrons were still inside.

“They gained entry through an unlocked door and one of the robbers pulled out the toy gun from his jacket’s pocket and pointed it at them while ordering them to lie on the floor.

“They demanded money and Mpofu gave them US$100 and three cellphones. After that they fled in their getaway car,” said the source.
