A Harare woman has taken her neighbour to court seeking a protection order after a dispute over a damaged hedge escalated into verbal abuse.

Martha Hombiro told the Harare Civil Court that her neighbour, Thandiso Siziba, has been disturbing her peace by repeatedly accusing her of damaging a hedge that separates their properties.

“She came to my house accusing me of damaging her hedge,” said Hombiro.

“We got into an argument, and that is when she called me a prostitute and a witch.”

Hombiro said the insults were offensive and harmful to her reputation, leading her to request legal protection.

Siziba denied making the remarks but said she would not oppose the peace order.

“I did not insult her. But I do not mind if the court issues the peace order,” said Siziba.

Magistrate Meenal Narotam granted the peace order in Hombiro’s favour and issued a warning to Siziba.

“If you insult your neighbour again, you will be arrested,” said the magistrate.
