LONDON. — Zimbabwe international defender Jordan Zemura yesterday woke up without a coach after his English Premiership football club AFC Bournemouth fired their manager Scott Parker.
Parker has become the first English Premier League managerial casualty of the season after being sacked by Bournemouth.
The club released a statement yesterday morning announcing that the 41-year-old had been relieved of his duties, three days after the Cherries were hammered 9-0 by Liverpool at the weekend.
Zimbabwean defender Zemura (22) lasted the whole 90 minutes in the mauling by Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
In a statement announcing the shock news, Bournemouth owner Maxim Demin thanked Parker but said it was “unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably” and added “we must also show belief in and respect for one another”.
It comes after Parker has used the aftermath of his side’s Anfield humiliation to send a message to the club hierarchy, claiming his squad was “ill-equipped at this level” and warning of more poor results unless reinforcements arrived in the final days of the transfer window.
