AFRICAN Boxing Union (ABU) welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi will get a crack at the World Boxing Council crown in Morocco on 28 September. The Masvingo-born boxer earned himself the ticket to challenge for top honours when he knocked out Burkina Faso’s Patrice Toke on 28 June in that country.
In an interview, Manyuchi said he has started preparing for the match and is looking forward to impress.
“I have been invited to participate in Morocco in September. This is a life-time opportunity and I won’t leave any stone unturned for the match against an opponent that is yet to be confirmed,” he said.

The 22-year-old fighter beat Toke by a technical knockout in the fifth round of a  scheduled 12 rounds bout to be crowned African champion.
His father who is also his trainer, Otis Manyuchi, praised his son for  doing the country and Masvingo proud by winning the belt that is envied by many boxers within the continent.

He said if he keeps his head high he has all what it takes to be the world champion one day and is preparing him for a bigger challenge.
Otis thanked his son’s handler Eddison Zvobgo (Jnr) for his unwavering support to boxing in Masvingo and helping him win the belt.

“The boy’s performance is impressive. If he continues with the same attitude he can be the world’s best one day. I would want to give special thanks to Masvingo Zvobgo Holdings Boxing stable promoter, Eddison Zvobgo for the continued support to Charles. He has been meeting all the training needs for Charles,” said Otis who is a former boxer.

He said his ABU title has earned him an opportunity to fight for a world title.
“With his African belt he can now compete at any level until he gets a world belt without any hindrance. I also wish to challenge the corporate world to assist in any way possible so that this boy lands a world title,” he said.

Charles said he has set his sight on the WBC title.
“I have conquered Africa and what is left is to conquer the world.
“It is every boxer’s dream to achieve greatness and I am no exception,” said Charles.
Winning the ABU title earned Charles an automatic rating under WBC, the most prominent of the boxing associations.
