HISTORY beckons for Bulawayo-born heavyweight pugilist Elvis Victor Moyo who takes on former South African heavyweight champion Osborne “Big Daddy” Machimana in a World Boxing Federation title fight in Cape Town, South Africa, on Friday night.
The bout is Moyo’s first career title fight and the Zimbabwean boxer who is based in Johannesburg yesterday issued a stern warning to Machimana, declaring that he would “send the former champion for an early retirement.”
The heavyweight title bout is set for Southern Sun Hotel in Cape Town.

The two boxers will be facing each other for the second time this year having fought in March at Sandton Convention Centre when they traded leather in an undercard of Chris ‘The Heat’ Van Heerden and Matthew ‘Magic’ Hatton’s International Boxing Organisation welterweight title fight.

Moyo and Machimana’s bill ended in a controversial draw as reports from South Africa said the Zimbabwean boxer had outclassed his opponent

Moyo, better known as the Bulawayo Bomber, has vowed to make Machimana pay.
“This is more of a revenge mission for me because I thought I had won the first fight but the judges thought otherwise. I’m going to stop Machimana. Actually I am going to beat him hard that whenever he sees the boxing ring he will look for a place to hide.

“This is my chance for me to prove that I am a world champion in the making and I feel sorry for Machimana because I will make history through him,” Moyo said.

According to BoxRec.Com, Moyo has fought 10 times winning thrice against Kali Kalembe and Stephen Castle at Emperors Palace in 2011. His third victory was against Justice Silinga last year.

The Bulawayo Bomber has lost five times to Danie Venter, Joseph Chingangu, Flo Simba and Ilunga Makaba who knocked him out twice in 2008 and 2010.

Moyo’s draws were against Machimana at the beginning of the year and Jonny Muller in 2010.
On the other hand, Machimana has traded leather in 27 bouts winning 18, 13 of which he knocked out his opponents and has lost seven times. He has two career draws against Baldwin Hlongwane (2001) and Moyo in March. Despite Machimana having a superior record, Moyo is confident of winning.

“I have been training hard for the fight and I feel that I am in great shape. The good thing about this tie is that it won’t end as a draw because there is a lot at stake. I want to knock him out and take the title home,” said Moyo.

He has been doing sparring with former Zimbabwe and Pan African World Boxing heavyweight champion Thamsanqa Dube who has relocated to South Africa in a bid to revive his career.
