ENOCK Musambudzi and Liberty Muwani’s super welterweight title fight will headline today’s first edition of the Friday Night Fights boxing tournament at Magamba Hall in Warren Park. Muwani believes he has what it takes to win the tournament by way of knockout.

“I am looking forward to a win. I know my opponent needs a win, but there is a lot at stake, so I am going to give it my best,’’ he said.

“My preparations have been going on well and we are happy as boxers to have such tournaments. Most of us were just training not knowing when you will have your next fight but I believe it is going to be a thing of the past.

“We thank all those who are supporting us and hope that we will see more promoters coming on board.’’

Boxing promoter Boris Zneider, in conjunction with Video Promotions, the Zimbabwe National Boxing Control Board and ZBC TV, will host the first edition of Fights today.

The tournament will have 14 professional and 12 amateur bouts.

Speaking at the official launch of the tournament, ZNBCB board member, Patrick Nyamukondiwa, said they wanted to revive both amateur and professional boxing in the country.

“Local boxing promoters have a goal of developing boxing from the grassroots using our national television station. Currently, we do not have enough professional boxers to host a full tournament and so we will be holding what we have called graduation nights where amateur boxers will be graduating to professional,” he said.
