Boxers return to ‘home of boxing’

IT has been a long time since boxers exchanged leather but on Saturday, the game returns to its original base at Sizinda South Beer Garden.

The Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) national boxing tournament will see over 20 boxing bouts.

The tournament is part of the Federation’s preparations for the Zone 4 Games that will be held in Maputo, Mozambique in April.

According to ZBF technical director, Steven Masiyambumbi, all is set for the tournament.

“All is set ahead of the competition.

This is our first tournament in Bulawayo since sporting activities were halted due to Covid-19 lockdowns.

As a country we need to fully prepare our boxers at all levels, we are having the Region 5 games in Malawi in December, the All Africa Games next year and the Youth Africa Games in Egypt this year,” he said.

Boxers from all over the country, including the Zimbabwe National Army and Air Force of Zimbabwe with champions in all weight divisions that include the likes of Blessings Sibanda, Lawrence Chiyangwa, Anesu Motsi, Luckmore Kamoto, Agnes Kwashi, lwazi mpofu, Loyd Mujibilikwa, Mpendulo Donga, Wisdom Dube, Sizalikuhle Ndlovu, Ntandolwenkosi Nyongoloza, Trade Nkomozabo , Mandlenkosi Marusenga are expected to be part of the proceedings.
