BOXING, which has for a long time been confined to the doldrums, now appear to have suddenly awoken from its slumber with four tournaments lined up over the next three weeks. Headlining the fixtures is the Kwese Sport boxing bill, set for the Sports Centre this Friday, April 27, and has an Independence commemorative theme attached to it, according to the promoters, Kalakoda of South Africa.

A day after, Zimbabwe engages Botswana in an international friendly amateur tournament at Sizinda Beer Gardens that is being hosted by the Zimbabwe National Army in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation.

On May 5, the Charles Manyuchi Sports Academy, in partnership with the Great Zimbabwe University, have scheduled a nine bout Pro-Am bill at the Civic Centre in Masvingo and the following week, the home of boxing in Harare, Raylton, sees veteran promoter Stalin Mau Mau returning with his second boxing treat since a long stint in hibernation.

But the main focus is on the Friday Fight Night series bill at the City Sports Centre this week.
Monalisa Sibanda will fight Chiedza Homakoma for the national lightweight crown, with the other tussle for the crown pitting Ronald Tamani and Tinashe “Chairman” Mwa- dziwana.

The winner of this match becomes the coveted new Zimbabwe super bantamweight champion. Elvis “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo has a date with a Ukrainian fighter Maksym Pedyura, alias “Iron Max.”
