BULAWAYO boxing enthusiasts are in for a treat when the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) hosts the 2018 National Championships at Sizinda South Beer Garden on Saturday.
The tournament will see pugilists from the Zimbabwe National Army, Midlands, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Harare, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, Mashonaland West, Manicaland, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Great Zimbabwe University facing off in various categories.
Stephen Masiyambumbi, the ZBF technical director, said they are looking forward to crowning champions in 10 divisions that include light flyweight, flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavy weight.
“Everything is on track with all teams having confirmed their participation. At the end of the day we are looking forward to crowning 10 champions from each division in both seniors and juniors.
“We are expecting over 200 boxers in this competition and I call on all boxing fans to come and witness some of the best talent the country has to offer.
Fans must look forward to some interesting bouts until Sunday morning,” said Masiyambumbi.
Some notable names that will compete on Saturday include Jojo Thomas from ZNA, Prosperous Basikiti (Masvingo), Carlos Ncube (Matabeleland North), Matabeleland South’s Farai Makombe and the Bulawayo trio of Zibusiso Nyoni, Mollen Hunda and Caroline Dube. — @khumzallen
