A 15-YEAR-OLD boy from Chitungwiza who lured a tenant’s eight-year-old daughter to watch pornographic material before raping her will receive four strokes of the cane. Chitungwiza regional magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa also sentenced the boy to a wholly suspended three–year jail term on condition of good behaviour.
The boy would take advantage of the absence of the girl’s mother to ask the girl to join him in watching the porno. He denied two counts of rape but was convicted after a full trial. Prosecutor Ms Tafadzwa Makwande proved that on July 19 and at around 1pm, the girl arrived home from school and found their door locked. Her mother had gone out with the keys.
The boy took advantage of the girl’s vulnerability as she was seated in the passage and invited her into his bedroom. The boy showed indecent videos and lured the girl to be intimate with him. The following day, he called the girl into his room again where repeated the same act. The offence came to light after the girl went to Harare with her mother who noticed that she was having difficulty in walking. Upon questioning, the girl narrated her ordeal.
