Boy (16) canned for culpable homicide

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy from Gweru will receive four strokes of cane for fatally knocking down a pedestrian while driving without a valid licence.

The boy from Mkoba Suburb in Gweru, has also been ordered not to acquire a driver’s licence within the next two years.

Gweru provincial magistrate, Mrs Pathekile Msipa ordered the boy to receive four strokes from Whawha prison.

The agreed facts are that on July 17 2017 at around 7PM, the boy who had no driver’s licence was driving a Honda Fit along Nashville Road, Gweru heading south.

Upon approaching Nashville High School, the boy failed to control the vehicle. He veered off the road to the left where he hit Fred Chiduwa who was walking in the same direction. The court also heard that the vehicle overturned several times before landing on its wheels.
