. . . given charms by witch doctor for riches
Zvikomborero Parafini
A 17-year-old boy has been jailed for six years after pleading guilty to raping his 10-year-old sister.
The boy appeared before regional magistrate Clever Tsikwa, who initially sentenced him to eight years before suspending two years on condition of good behaviour.
The boy (name withheld) told magistrate Tsikwa that a sangoma, one Sekuru Mutasa gave him some charms to get rich and informed him that the condition was to sleep with his biological sister.
Circumstances are that sometime in 2019, the two siblings were at home alone when the brother called his sister to their parents’ bedroom.
He instructed her to remove her clothes, but she refused and then he stripped her and raped her. The State proved that after the rape, he threatened to kill her if she told anyone. It was proved that he raped her again the following day and on two other occasions in the same year.
On January 11, this year, the brother ordered his sister to bring him water and when she brought it, he told her that he didn’t want water, but wanted to sleep with her instead.
He then raped her.
The State led by Zvikomborero Mupasa heard that when the girl tried to reveal the incident to her mother, she thought she was lying.
The matter came to light when the two siblings had a misunderstanding at their aunt’s house and the sister told the aunt that her brother always threatened her whenever she tried to reveal that he had raped her.
