A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy died while receiving treatment from a faith healer in Zengeza on Friday.
Anesu Khaliwo was experiencing severe breathing difficulties.
His mother, Nicole Mavunga, 22, decided to seek assistance from a faith healer, Gogo Christine Nyakudya, 72.
Gogo Nyakudya is known in her community for her unconventional methods.
Mavunga received the blessings of her uncle, who has only been identified as Phillip.
When Mavunga and her son arrived at the healer’s house in Zengeza, the boy’s condition had worsened.
Gogo Nyakudya inserted her fingers into Anesu’s mouth to remove what she claimed was affecting his breathing.
But, after Anesu spit out saliva, he suddenly lost consciousness.
Panic ensued as Nicole and Phillip realised the gravity of the situation.
They rushed Anesu to Citimed Hospital for medical attention.
However, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the Harare provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the child’s death.
“Police are investigating a sudden death case in Zengeza, Chitungwiza. The now deceased was taken to a faith healer for prayers.
“This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between faith and medical intervention, leaving a community grappling with sorrow and unanswered questions,” he said.
