Boy dies in suspected drowning

A 14-year-old boy was found floating in Gada Dam at Madabe area in Mangwe district in what is suspected to be a drowning case, police said yesterday.
The Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe, said the body of the boy was discovered on Friday at about 3pm by a local herdsman who was taking a bath at the dam.

The boy was last seen herding his family donkeys the previous day at about 2pm.
“The boy was last seen by his grandmother herding donkeys near their homestead on Thursday afternoon. The woman became suspicious when the boy did not return home that same evening prompting her to alert other villagers. The body of the boy was discovered the following day floating in the dam and a report was made to us,” he said.

Insp Dzirutwe identified the boy as Khabelo Moyo of Mr Robert Mahauba Ndlovu’s homestead in Osabeni Village under Madabe area of Mangwe district.
The body was retrieved by the police sub aqua unit and taken to Plumtree District Hospital mortuary pending a post mortem.
Insp Dzirutwe said they were still investigating to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
