DJ on murder charge

A freelance DJ who two year years ago slapped his live-in girlfriend resulting in her death four days later has been dragged to court.
Clancy Junior Munetsi (20), of 6A Syringa Avenue, Sauerstown, was not formally charged with murder when on Monday he briefly appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Mr Sikhumbuzo Nyathi.
He was granted $100 bail and was ordered to report to Sauerstown Police Station once every Saturday.
He will next appear in court on 27 February.
The court heard that Munetsi and the late Egifah Tambudzai Maphosa (20) were lovers and had been staying together for six months.
On 8 May 2010, they attended a 21st birthday party for Maphosa’s cousin. Munetsi had an argument with his lover over her disorderly behaviour at the party.
They later left the party and went to where they were staying and the argument continued resulting in Munetsi slapping his lover in the face twice.
On 12 May, Maphosa was bathing when she fell and Munetsi’s sister ran into the bathroom after hearing a loud noise and found Maphosa lying on the floor. The sister picked her and took her to the bedroom and asked her what had happened.
She told the sister that she was feeling dizzy, hot and was hungry.
The sister then informed her mother Christine Adams who prepared cereal porridge but Maphosa refused to eat.
They decided to take her to Mpilo Central Hospital where she was taken to the casualty department and was attended to by a doctor who certified her dead at 6.30 pm on the same day.
A sudden death docket was opened, taken to court and the findings were that Maphosa died because of assault.
A murder docket was opened against Munetsi.
According to the post-mortem report the cause of death was subarachnoid haemorrhage as a result of a head injury caused by an assault.
Mr Masimba Saruwaka appeared for the State and Mr David Mhiribidi, of Chikanda and Partners Legal Practitioners defended Munetsi.
