A 12-YEAR-OLD boy from Zezani area in Beitbridge West was recently fatally assaulted by his brother for refusing to take his anti-retroviral tablets. The brother, Thuso Ndou (28), has since been arrested by police on murder charges. Ndou, who resides under Chief Sitauze’s area, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Miss Gloria Takundwa who remanded him in custody to August 16 yesterday.

Prosecutor Mr Jabulani Mberesi told the court that Ndou was staying with the boy since their parents are late.

The court heard that on July 31 at around 12pm Ndou ordered the boy who was on anti-retroviral therapy to take his medication, but he refused culminating in the beating.

When the boy tried to flee, he fell headlong hitting on to a stone and collapsed. Ndou tried to resuscitate the boy but he failed.

The boy was later taken to Beitbridge district hospital and died along the way. The matter was reported to the police resulting in Ndou’s arrest.
