A MAN who had reported his girlfriend missing allegedly led police to her shallow grave on a farm — following what police say was an alleged visit to a sangoma.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the decomposed body of the 27-year-old woman was found buried at a farm homestead in the Kloofeind area along the N8 National Road between Bloemfontein and Petrusburg.

Crime scene experts descended on the farm from as early as 10am on Monday, 9 February 2026, after crime intelligence work and information linked to the suspect’s alleged sangoma visit cracked the case wide open.

In a shocking twist, the shallow grave was allegedly pointed out by the suspect himself — the woman’s 34-year-old boyfriend — leading to the exhumation of her remains.

Police said the suspect, a farm worker, had earlier claimed his girlfriend went missing on Saturday, 17 January 2026. A missing person case was opened at Parkweg Police Station on Friday, 30 January 2026.

But SAPS later established that the suspect had allegedly lied to police, claiming the woman had left the farm to visit her aunt in the Pieter Swarts area of Bloemspruit.

Following the gruesome discovery, the suspect was immediately arrested. He now faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.

SAPS confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, as investigations continue.
