Boyz DzeTonaz, a new clothing line by enterprising business youths has taken Harare and abroad by surprise.
The designer label which also promotes pride in the beauty of the capital city, with some of the merchandise emblazoned with the words “Harare” or “Mbare”, has ignited a sense of patriotism through trendy outfits such as hoodies, T-shirts, college jackets, caps, vests and track-suits among others.

In an interview with the Herald Entertainment, Boyz DzeTonaz brand manager Lloyd Jiro said they come up with the concept because they wanted something that was original which people could relate to.

“Fashion is the way we live, breathe, walk and talk. Clothes identify with a people and most people relate through the way they dress. Boyz DzeTonaz is a brand suitable for youth and hip-style,” he said.

Jiro who is also a club DJ-cum-promoter said the brands were made from Thailand.

“We value quality much rather than quantity. We make T-shirts somewhere in Harare but our caps, college jackets and vests are from Thailand. We want the youths to be guided by their identity of style, being Boyz DzeTonaz we don’t our designers to be of standard quality. It is the latest style and already it has caused a quite a stir in different parts of the country,” said Jiro.

“It is not only about the boys (men) but the ladies are also taken care of since we have the Girlz DzeTonaz for the trendy women out there. Under our label, we saw the need to promote our towns and cities like Harare and Mbare on caps instead of New York and the like. With demand we are going to have other town names and cities soon. As designers we don’t want to give people the same thing all the time. So we have come up with new styles that range from hoodies, caps to jackets on Girlz DzeTonaz too,” he said.
Jiro said they have dressed Polikem, Robert Mugabe (Jnr) and some local musicians.

“We are working with some reputable people to continue promoting our brand. We have approached Robert Mugabe Jnr and have agreed on some marketing terms. He has become the face of the label and we are happy about it,” he said.

Due to high demand, they were now aiming at conquering the world with the clothing line.

“The label is in UK, Zimbabwe, Thailand, South Africa, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Canada and the US among other countries. We can say the sky is the limit for us but our major challenge is on finance because of the huge demand on items with deadline.

Some of the celebrities who have strutted in Boyz DzeTonaz include South African Springboks and Natal Sharks Super Rugby Player Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira, BBA-The Chase housemates Hakeem and famous couple Pokello and Elikeem, hip-hop singer Tatea Da MC, models and King Tate.
