Boyz II Men engage Plaxedes

Plaxedes Wenyika who rose to fame with her song Tisaparadzane is launching her  5th album Brighter Day at the end of the month. Plaxedes is already receiving airplay for a single on her album, Huya Ndikunyaradze whose afro-jazzy tones have been well received by the public.

Plaxedes spoke with Zimbo Jam and expressed the need for artistes to reach for the stars. She mentioned that it was not enough for artistes to want to be big in Zimbabwe, but that artistes needed to strive to sell their music outside the country.

The belle who sings under her stable La Cede International encouraged record labels to give guidance to Zimbabwean musicians with regards to their style of music and how to market their music.
Also billed to open for Boyz II Men will be the Cool Crooners from Bulawayo who play a mixture of jazz and mbaqanga.

Meanwhile, the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) this year will suffer from a free “iBug”, as it showcases the festival online, using various mediums. HIFA hopes that this development will enable the festival to be part of a global audience.

With free access to videos all year round, HIFA fanatics can continue to relive their experience and share with those who were unable to attend. The videos which will be made available on Youtube and the HIFA site will also eventually feature past festivals. HIFA expects this new development will appeal to the youth. In a press release from HIFA, the Executive Director Maria Wilson expressed that this development has taken a while because, “we (HIFA) never rush a project and always strive to give due care and diligence in an attempt to bring out a product of the highest quality possible within the framework of the resources available and the circumstances obtaining at that time”.

An important consequence of using the internet to showcase HIFA events will be the promoting of Zimbabwean artistes within the global community. The videos will allow artistes to gain an international platform as clips will be viable to anyone.— Zimbo Jam.
