“Dust and Fortunes” tells the story of dreams. The main character sees opportunity where others would see curses.
The main actor in the movie Michael acted by Nash Mphepho is a disabled school dropout. Like most Zimbabweans, he loves football.
For him it is not the players who are the stars, but the manager. Michael finally invites the country’s biggest football club Dynamos and in the event he is transformed into a community hero.
Global Academy chief executive Regis Chinembiri said the film gave students hands-on experience on how the movies are done.
“At Global Academy, we understand that skill without passion is not enough.
“Therefore, we identify and nurture the artistic core of our students to enable them to harness, hone and unleash the latent talent that lies within them.
“Our approach is fully hands-on and student learn by doing, so that by the time they graduate, they are confident, capable and already proven themselves,” he said.
He said lectures at the academy decided that instead of doing a variety of short films, it would be better to harness all the available resources and do a full strength production.
“With in-house experts, school equipment, all that was needed was to capture the imagination of outside experts and sell the idea. With a very small budget, but a lot of talented and willing hands, ‘Dust and Fortunes’ was born,” he said
Producer of the film Dorothy Meck said the movie was created on a tight budget, but remained one of the best films she has ever produced.
“We encountered challenges here and there but we are happy with the product we have produced. We have little or no budget at all, but we managed to pull through,” said Meck.
Maringwa said the experience he got from the fim was invaluable.
“I am happy to try my hand in acting. I last acted when I was in primary school, but since I am in the business of entertaining, I was thrilled to be part of the cast,” he said.
