Brainy Zendera still in Gamecocks books

IN the wake of media reports that Pride Zendera’s contract with Chicken Inn expired at the end of last month, the Gamecocks family has insisted that the goalkeeper was still in their books.

Instead, club secretary-general Tavengwa Hara said their third choice, Samuel Mafukidze, was the one who saw his contract with Joey Antipas’ men run out at the end of June.

“Zendera still has a running contract with us. He is still committed to the club and he is among our veteran players that we will always value. Instead, Sam (Mafukidze) is the one whose contract with us ran out at the end of June. However, we have already engaged him (Sam) on the development because we also value his contributions to the club,” said Hara.

Mafudzike, an ex-Yadah FC gloves man, has been playing second fiddle to Zendera and to former national team and How Mine goalie Donovan Bernard in the past two seasons.

Despite being endowed with good goalkeeping antics and ability to produce match winning saves for the former league champions, Zendera (28), has proved to be brainy as he is now a proud owner of a six-roomed house in Bulawayo’s high-density suburb of Pelandaba West.

For the house project, he used his savings while staying at his parents’ place in Tshabalala together with his wife Isabel Ndlovu and their three-year-old son, Keshawn.

He started the project in 2015.

Before joining Chicken Inn in 2014, Zendera played three seasons for Swaziland’s Moneni Pirates before joining Manzini Sundowns (now Denver Sundowns) in 2012.
