A MAN from Chief Nyajena area in Masvingo has been convicted and sentenced to serve five years in jail after he emerged from the bush and removed his clothes before he allegedly attempted to rape a woman.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) the man who is aged 20, appeared before regional magistrate and pleaded guilty to the charge.
The magistrate slapped him with a 10 year jail sentence. Five years were suspended on condition of good behavior. He will effectively serve five years in jail.
The NPA said on 3 November shortly after mid-day the offender met the woman while she was heading to Nyamande Business Centre. He leaped to her from the bushy
area and grabbed her by her hand while begging to have sex with her. The woman refused but he pushed her to the ground. However, the victim summoned courage and grabbed him by his manhood and squeezed and twisted it. The court heard that the woman managed to escape leaving him groaning in agony.
She ran to a police station and reported the incident leading to the arrest of the man.
