BREAKING: Death toll from Kariba boat disaster rises to 80 as eight more bodies are recovered

AT least eight more bodies have been recovered this morning, bringing the total deaths in the RIDA Kariba boat disaster to 80.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo confirmed the latest development at a briefing this afternoon.

“We have had a devastating tragedy in Kariba where several people have lost their lives,” she said.

“We have just received information on the recovery of eight other bodies, meaning we now have 80 deaths in the disaster.”

Minister Chombo hailed Government departments, the Zimbabwe National Army Boat Squadron, the ZRP Sub-Aqua Unit, freelance divers, business operators and the community of Kariba for their efforts and support in managing the tragedy.
