A Hwange woman, Mrs Virginia Nyoni, who was miraculously pulled out of the jaws of a vicious crocodile by her courageous husband, Mr Oliver Nyoni, has succumbed to the gory injuries she sustained during the attack.
Mrs Nyoni (45) died in the operating theatre at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo on Thursday, having been transferred from Hwange Colliery Hospital, two days after the May 2 attack which took place at her Msuna-Kanjeza village as she was collecting water from the Zambezi River, their only source due to the lack of a borehole.
Area councillor, Lethukuthula Ngwenya confirmed the sad news.
“We have lost her. She died during an operation procedure at Mpilo Central Hospital yesterday (Thursday). It is so tragic and the whole village is distraught. I last spoke to her on Wednesday and it all looked so promising,” said Cllr Ngwenya.
Mrs Nyoni leaves behind her widower, Oliver and six children.
Meanwhile, Cllr Ngwenya said a crocodile was shot from the attack scene, but villagers are saying it’s not the killer reptile.
