BREAKING into the Swedish music industry is not a priority for upcoming musician Queen Tatelicious Karigambe- Sandberg as she targets making a name for herself in Zimbabwe before spreading her wings internationally.
Based in the Swedish city of Alandsbro, the upcoming Jazz and Afro Pop musician feels establishing herself locally will set her music career on the right path.
With four recorded singles to her name, Queen Tatelicious says she was overwhelmed by the way her music was being received by listeners on local radio stations.
“I had to pinch myself the first time I heard my first single Ndichengete being played by a radio station back at home. Every upcoming artiste always doubts themselves because we feel that maybe we are not good enough to break into the music industry.
“I feel that it’s important for my music to be appreciated back home before I can go international and I’m happy that my management company Alfa Entertainment also share the same vision and they have been working hard to market my music in Zimbabwe,” Queen Tatelicious told B-Metro from her base in Sweden.
It’s often said that music is a universal language that breaks all barriers and Queen Tatelicious says she has witnessed that personally.
“The people here are very accommodative and generally love good music so performing my music here is not really a problem,” she said.
“It’s encouraging getting support from established artistes such as Baba Harare and Sulumani Chimbetu who encouraged me to record my music after they heard my demos on Facebook. I’m inspired by the late Chiwoniso Maraire whose music is such an inspiration to a lot of musicians,” she added.
The musician says she is planning a tour of the United Kingdom, which is home to millions of Zimbabweans working and studying in the diaspora.
