BREAKING NEWS: Car explosion kills one in Berlin

At least one man died when a car containing a bomb exploded Tuesday morning in Berlin, police said.

The blast occurred around 8 a.m. (3 a.m. ET) in Charlottenburg, a district in western Berlin, according to city police spokesman Stefan Petersen.

Authorities have not identified the man who died.

Debris littered the street around the four-door car, according to a picture tweeted by Berlin police.

The vehicle’s front end appeared badly damaged and its windows — including the front windshield — were blasted out.

A bomb squad unit approached the car late Tuesday morning to determine if it has any more explosives, police said.

As it did, police urged people in the vicinity to go indoors, close their windows and not to linger on balconies. (CNN)
