A SECURITY wall under construction at the corner of St Andrews and Kilwinning Roads in Hatfield, Harare, is being demolished by Harare municipal police.

The demolition follows a dispute over the ownership of the approximately 6,000 square metre piece of land.

Witnesses report that workers were caught off guard when council personnel questioned the construction, claiming the land was earmarked for cluster homes.

A backhoe loader was immediately deployed, destroying the nearly completed 2.4m high security wall.

The incident is the latest in a series of demolitions by the Harare City Council targeting illegal structures and land developments.

The council has been enforcing urban planning regulations and warning residents to obtain proper approvals before constructing.
