TWO people died while a toddler is in critical condition after their vehicle was crushed from the back by a truck along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge highway near the March Binding area on Wednesday morning.

One of the deceased is a school pupil.

Bulawayo Fire and Rescue Services attended the scene, with Chief Fire Officer Mr Mhlangano Moyo confirming the incident.

“There was a fatal road accident along the Gwanda Road at March Binding between a Honda Fit and a truck. Two people have been confirmed dead, one of them is a school child. Those who were trapped were extricated by the Brigade crew, and two patients were conveyed to the hospital by Brigade ambulance services. The toddler is in a critical condition,” said Mr Moyo.

He said preliminary reports indicate that the truck, which was heading towards Bulawayo, rammed into the Honda Fit that was coming from Sipezeni after it allegedly failed to give way.
