VICTORIA Falls’ first commercial radio station, Breeze FM 91.2 has reiterated its mission to affiliate with local artistes.
This was said by the station’s executive producer Jonathan “Jvan” Sibanda at a consultative meeting held in the resort city last week Wednesday.
This meeting saw Matabeleland North musicians, broadcasters, members of the police force, media personnel and the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) congregating at Chinotimba Municipal Hall for a Zimbabwe Music Rights Association stakeholders awareness workshop.
Jvan Sibanda who is a producer and presenter for mid-morning shows (Zambezi Drive Monday – Friday) and (Chartrockers – Saturday) said the station is for all artistes from Matabeleland North province.
“We’re a station for the people and I’m glad to reiterate that. We have an open-door policy for artistes from our region. I’ve realised that some artistes who lack airplay send me messages in my inbox requesting airplay. That’s not the way to go about it. Musicians need to submit their music the proper way for them to get airplay,” he said.
At the meeting, artistes were taught the proper channels for music submission to guarantee airplay suppose the music meets the required standards.
“There are quite a number of ways to submit your music at the station. These include emailing songs and physical submissions. Sending them on WhatsApp is not the way to go.
“If our music is to grow, then we need to standardise our way of doing things in line with global standards,” said Sibanda.
Sibanda also emphasised the need for artistes to always have their electronic press kits (EPKs) ready to help broadcasters with a sneak preview into who the artistes are since they will share such information with their listeners.
